The 'Voice of the Coast' was the predecessor of Your Dubai 92. We were based in Sharjah during the 60's and associated with the British Foreign Office. Back then, the station - which broadcasted on 737 AM had a signal that was so strong, the station could be heard all the way from the UK!

Then and Now: The Fight of the Century is 50 this year

It had everything inside the ring, 15 rounds of pure drama and 2 undefeated heavyweights.

In the same year that Dubai 92 first hit the UAE's airwaves, a monumental sporting moment took place in Madison Square Garden, New York City.

'The Fight of the Century’ (March 8, 1971) saw Muhammad Ali face Smokin’ Joe Frasier. It was an event that transcended sport, and which many say changed the world forever.

It had everything inside the ring, 15 rounds of pure drama, 2 undefeated heavyweights: Ali returning after four years in exile, against Frasier, the champ, who won the title in Ali’s absence.

Meanwhile, outside the ring, the bout ignited debate about multiple global topics.

It set a precedent for global sporting events, as the world stood still and tried to catch a glimpse of this most fascinating of contests. Tickets were so sought after for the event that even Frank Sinatra had to blag his way in with press accreditation and shoot photographs for Life Magazine!

They just don’t make them like they used to back in 1971 do they?
