#AppleEvent: Ten things to know about the iPhone 12

The cat’s out of the bag and the iPhone 12 has been unveiled to the world. As always, the new generation of iPhone comes with a slew of features that make it even better than the previous model. It also gives some of us reading this the irresistible reason to upgrade.

We followed the reveal event this evening and hot of the heels of the event, we’re bringing you the 10 things you should know about this year’s most popular iPhone!

5G is here

The biggest announcement of the evening, the iPhone 12 line is 5G capable. To conserve data, all models will have Smart Data Mode which will use LTE bands for less demanding tasks.

Need for speed

As with every year, the new model is equipped with Apple’s latest processor - the A14 Bionic. According to Apple, the new processor is 50% faster than what is currently in the market.

Bright and tough

The iPhone 12 comes with a 6.1-inch display (6.7 for the Pro Max) with Super Retina XDR display. Screens are also protected with Ceramic Shield glass technology and is water-resistant for 6 metres up to 30 minutes.

What about cameras?

On the camera front, the iPhone 12 boasts a wide lens with an f1.6 aperture better at capturing low light. Night mode shooting is now also available on the front mounted lens and the ultrawide lens. Time lapse videos can now be shot using night mode.

Snap on to it

The iPhone 12 line also includes MagSafe technology - a set of magnets at the back of the phone which enables wireless charges, phone cases, and wallets to ‘snap’ to the back of the phone and stay on.

Where’s my charger?

Another important announcement that Apple made is the removal of wired earphones and charging adapters from the iPhone 12 package; in its bid to be environmentally friendly. All iPhone 12 models will use smaller boxes containing only the unit and a USB-C charging cable.

There’s a Mini now!

Joining the regular iPhone 12 and it’s bigger, more powerful siblings the Pro and Pro Max, Apple unveiled the iPhone 12 Mini which packs the same groundbreaking features on the iPhone 12 in a diminutive package which has a 5.4-inch display and 5G capabilities.

Oh so blue

A new colour joins the iPhone family and it’s called Pacific Blue! Gone is Rose Gold but in its place is a Gold colour. Both options are for the Pro models only.

When can I get it?

According to Apple, the iPhone 12, Pro will be available for preorder this Friday, October 16 with units being available on the 23rd. The Pro Max and Mini will follow at a later date with November 6 for preorders and availability on November 13.

How much is it?

According to the Apple UAE website, the iPhone 12 Mini begins 2,999 AED with the 12 starting at 3,399 AED. The 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max follow the iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max’s price points at 4,199 AED and 4,699 AED respectively.
