In line with directives from His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Media Council, to strengthen Dubai’s position as a global hub for media innovation, the Dubai Media Council met with TikTok to explore new partnership opportunities focused on media advancement and knowledge exchange.

Mona Al Marri, Vice Chairperson and Managing Director of the Dubai Media Council, and President of the Dubai Press Club, led the discussions with TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew.

The meeting highlighted Dubai’s commitment to fostering the growth of new media platforms that can positively impact communities.

Also attending was Nehal Badri, Secretary General of the Dubai Media Council, as discussions centered on using media to support Dubai’s strategic goals under the Dubai Economic Agenda D33 and Dubai Social Agenda 33.

These initiatives aim to position Dubai as a global leader and an ideal place to live, work, and visit.

The collaboration with TikTok is expected to focus on training, skill development, and knowledge exchange, leveraging the platform’s expertise to nurture a generation of skilled content creators.

Mona Al Marri emphasised Dubai’s role in advancing regional media by aligning with global industry leaders, stating: “Our focus is on harnessing successful global experiences to train and prepare media professionals and content creators, empowering them to drive media development using cutting-edge tools and innovative practices.”

Since establishing its regional base in Dubai in 2018, TikTok has rapidly expanded its presence in the MENA region, particularly among younger audiences.

This growing user base reflects the platform's success and the dynamic evolution of digital media within the region, further aligning with Dubai’s vision of media innovation and talent development.
