Sharjah Airport marks record year with passenger surge

Sharjah Airport has announced record results for 2025, with passenger numbers reaching 19.48 million, up from 17.1 million in 2024 — a growth of nearly 14 per cent.

The number of flights also rose to more than 116,600 in 2025, an increase of over 8 per cent, driven by new destinations, rising tourism and improved operational capacity.

Air cargo activity continued to climb, with more than 204,000 tonnes handled in 2025, compared to around 196,000 tonnes in 2024.

Sea-air cargo also recorded steady growth, reaching nearly 16,800 tonnes, highlighting Sharjah Airport’s expanding role in global supply chains linking Asia, Africa, Europe and the Middle East.

Chairman of the Sharjah Airport Authority, Ali Salem Al Midfa, said the strong results reflect the success of the airport’s long‑term strategy and ongoing investment in infrastructure, digital systems and sustainability, supporting Sharjah’s economic and tourism goals.

Director of the Authority, Sheikh Faisal bin Saud Al Qasimi, added that the growth highlights the airport’s key role in supporting travel and business, backed by advanced infrastructure, efficient governance and a strong regulatory framework.

During 2025, Sharjah Airport expanded its flight network, with Air Arabia launching direct services to cities including Munich, Vienna, Prague, Warsaw, Addis Ababa, Sochi, Krabi, and Damascus, with London set to be added in March.

New routes were also introduced to Ahvaz, Qeshm and Bandar Abbas in Iran.

Four new international airlines joined Sharjah Airport last year — SalamAir, Caspian Airlines, Fly Sham and Ethiopian Airlines — boosting connectivity to more than 100 global destinations.

The airport also rolled out new passenger services, including home check-in, premium hospitality lounges and the UAE’s first airport-wide 5G+ network.

Smart travel systems, upgraded medical facilities, transit hotel accommodation, and enhanced services for the elderly and people of determination were also introduced.

In addition, UAE citizens can now renew their passports around the clock at Sharjah Airport, making travel procedures faster and more convenient.
