The UAE aims to expand its economic and trade partnerships at the upcoming 18th BRICS summit as a full member since 2024.

A UAE delegation led by Abu Dhabi's Crown Prince, His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, will be attending the summit, set to take place from September 12-13 in New Delhi.

The UAE's membership is gaining increasing significance given the economic weight of BRICS, whose member countries account for around 49.5 per cent of the world's population, nearly 40 per cent of global GDP and 26 per cent of global trade.

BRICS supports the UAE's approach of economic openness and diversification of partnerships, while creating opportunities to develop trade corridors, expand investment and business channels, and boost cooperation with emerging and developing economies.

The UAE's entry into BRICS has benefitted both parties. Non-oil foreign trade between the UAE and BRICS countries exceeded $312 billion in 2025, compared with $243 billion in 2024, representing a growth of 28.5 per cent.

BRICS countries accounted for around 31 per cent of the UAE's total non-oil foreign trade, 34 per cent of imports, 23 per cent of non-oil exports and 28 per cent of re-exports.

The UAE's membership supports the development of balanced economic relations and promotes sustainable growth, alongside broadening its participation in the group's economic and financial initiatives.
