UAE, US strengthen economic and financial partnership during Washington talks

The UAE and the United States have reaffirmed their commitment to expanding economic cooperation during a series of high-level meetings in Washington, D.C., led by UAE Minister of State Saeed Al Hajeri.

The UAE delegation, which included Assistant Foreign Minister for Advanced Science and Technology Omran Sharaf, held talks with senior officials from the US Departments of Commerce, Treasury and State, as well as the Office of the US Trade Representative. Al Hajeri also met the US G20 Sherpa, reaffirming the UAE's commitment to supporting the priorities of the US G20 Presidency.

The discussions came as economic ties between the two countries continue to strengthen. Bilateral trade exceeded $40 billion in 2025, a 12 per cent increase on the previous year, while the UAE remained the largest export market for US goods in the Middle East and North Africa for the 17th consecutive year.

Officials said US exports to the UAE supported more than 205,000 American jobs across sectors including technology, energy, advanced manufacturing and critical minerals.

The meetings also highlighted the UAE's $1.4 trillion commitment to investment and economic impact in the United States over the next decade, with both countries looking to expand cooperation in artificial intelligence, innovation, advanced manufacturing, energy and financial services.

The two sides also exchanged views on strengthening cooperation to combat money laundering, terrorist financing, sanctions evasion and other emerging financial crimes.

Al Hajeri said the visit reflected the strength of the UAE-US strategic partnership and a shared commitment to building a more resilient, transparent and secure global financial system through closer cooperation and the exchange of expertise.
