The Arab Parliament has welcomed the announcement of the formation of the Palestinian technocratic committee to administer the Gaza Strip.
In a statement, Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Yamahi, President of the Arab Parliament, reaffirmed that this step represents an important development on the path towards restoring stability and improving humanitarian conditions in Palestine.
According to Reuters, the Palestinian body will have 15 members and will be led by Ali Shaath, a former deputy minister in the Western-backed Palestinian Authority who had been in charge of developing industrial zones.
Al Yamahi stressed that the parliament will continue its full support for any serious Arab or international efforts that contribute to consolidating the ceasefire and advancing a comprehensive solution to the Palestinian cause, one that ends the occupation and realises an independent, sovereign Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
He also expressed his appreciation for the intensive efforts undertaken by Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey, with the sponsorship of the USA, to reach this Palestinian national understanding.
