Four people have died in Oman in the past 24 hours as a result of heavy thunderstorms on Saturday.
The National Emergency Management Committee’s Search and Rescue Sector said two people died after their vehicle was trapped in a wadi in Wadi Al Maawil, in South Al Batinah Governorate. Their bodies were later recovered.
In a separate incident in the nearby state of Barka, a vehicle carrying ten people was swept away by floodwaters.
Rescue teams were able to save seven people, while two were found dead. One person remains missing, with search operations continuing.
Authorities have not released further details but have warned of the dangers posed by flooding in wadis during periods of heavy rain.
