Massive fire rips through El Gouna film festival plaza in Egypt

A massive fire has ripped through a part of the El Gouna film festival's main plaza in Egypt, a day before the opening ceremony.

Footage posted by several people on social media shows thick plumes of smoke emitting from the main hall. 

There were no initial reports of casualties and the cause is still unknown.

According to media reports, firefighters are on the scene.

The nine-day film festival was slated to open on Thursday, October 14.
