Godolphin runners Sky Hunter and Hartnell have drawn Gates 7 and 17 respectively for Tuesday’s Emirates Melbourne Cup. The draw was made at the end of an exciting Derby Day that saw Godolphin win the second race of the day as Ambience, ridden by James McDonald, romped to victory in the Mumm Wakeful Stakes. Sky Hunter trainer Saeed bin Suroor was present at the Barrier Draw and speaking to Dubai Eye 103.8, he hopes the lucky number of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, will prove to be a lucky omen. Bin Suroor nor Godolphin have ever won the Emirates Melbourne Cup after 17 years of trying, but the Emirati handler is confident that could change on Tuesday.

Darren Beadman, assistant to John O’Shea who trains Hartnell, was far from disappointed with his draw and remains hopeful that the four-year-old can become the first Australian-trained Godolphin hope to win “the race that stops a nation”.Darren Beadman
