New Zealand crushed India by 10 wickets in Wellington to go 1-0 up in the two-Test series.
The hosts dismissed their opponents for 191 in the second innings and then took just 10 deliveries to chase down the nine-run target.
It was also their 100th Test victory.
Tim Southee (5-61) and Trent Boult (4-39) were the pick of the New Zealand bowlers, while Mayank Agarwal top-scored for India in the second innings with a knock of 58.
The teams will now travel to Christchurch for the second and final Test, which starts on February 29.
