UAE athletes compete across five sports at Asian Games

UAE athletes competed in shooting, cycling, triathlon, swimming and football at the Asian Games in Japan on Sunday, as the country's campaign continued across Aichi-Nagoya.

In cycling, Abdullah Jassim finished seventh in the men's individual time trial, completing the course in 44 minutes and 1.48 seconds, while Safia Al Sayegh placed 12th in the women's event.

The UAE was also represented in shooting by Fatima Al Suwaidi, Yasmin Tahlak and Mona Al Hosani, while Yousif Al Henai competed in the men's individual triathlon.

Three UAE swimmers were in action, with Hamad Al Shehhi competing in the 100-metre freestyle and Salem Ghaleb and Mohammed Al Yamahi taking part in the 200-metre individual medley.

In football, the UAE Olympic team drew 0-0 with North Korea to earn its first point of the tournament. It will face China in its final Group B match on Wednesday.

The UAE has 165 athletes competing across 21 sports at the Games, which run until October 4.
