Abu Dhabi is making healthier food choices more accessible across its tourism and hospitality sector.
Under new measures, hotel restaurants and food and beverage outlets operating under a tourism licence must offer at least one healthy choice in every adult menu category, including appetizers, main courses, side dishes and desserts.
At least 50 per cent of all children’s menu items must meet approved healthy nutritional standards.
These dishes can be identified through SEHHI, the nutritional classification developed by the Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre (ADPHC).
Low-sodium salt is also being introduced as the default table option, replacing standard salt, to support heart health.
The policies took effect in July, with full compliance and enforcement beginning on October 1.
The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi has partnered with Healthy Living initiative to drive the changes.
