The General Department of Punitive and Correctional Institutions at Dubai Police has provided financial assistance to inmates worth over AED 6.5 million this year.
The funds were spent on monthly allowances to inmates' families, paying tuition and housing rents, and covering medical treatment for both prisoners and their families.
The amount also helped settle prisoners' debts and overdue blood money, and covered their repatriation travel tickets as well as expenses during special occasions such as Ramadan and Eid.
The details were revealed during the annual inspection carried out by Major General Dr. Abdul Quddus Abdul Razzaq Al Obaidli, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Excellence and Pioneering Affairs.
He was accompanied by Brigadier Marwan Abdul Karim Julfar, Acting Director of the General Department of Punitive and Correctional Institutions, and other senior officers.
Maj. Gen. Al Obaidli hailed the Department's efforts to provide as many as 7,190 services for inmates during the current year, including issuing certificates and permits for visits from their families, consuls, and diplomatic bodies.
He also reviewed the statistics of the Education and Training Section, which carried out 30 training courses in 2022.
