A major upgrade of escalators and walkways across the Dubai Metro network has been completed, with 262 escalators refurbished — around 63 per cent of the total.
The overhaul is part of an ongoing programme to improve safety, reliability and passenger comfort, while extending the lifespan of key equipment.
The Roads and Transport Authority worked in collaboration with Keolis MHI, the operator and maintainer of Dubai Metro and Dubai Tram.
The work included detailed inspections and the replacement of major components such as handrail belts, drive systems and motor units.
Most of the maintenance was carried out overnight and during scheduled maintenance periods to avoid disrupting services.
Officials say the upgrades have improved reliability, reduced unexpected breakdowns and enhanced the overall passenger experience.
