Dubai to roll out smart monitoring system for delivery bikes

Dubai is introducing a smart monitoring system for delivery motorcycles, using advanced technology to improve road safety and ensure greater compliance with traffic regulations.

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) says the system will combine a digital platform, smart monitoring devices and cameras installed on delivery bikes.

It will collect real-time data on riders' behaviour, including speed, sudden acceleration, harsh braking, driving patterns and routes.

The information will help authorities identify unsafe riding practices, while allowing delivery companies to monitor their fleets more effectively and take early corrective action.

Saeed Al Ramsi, Director of Licensing Activities Monitoring at the RTA, said the initiative marks a shift towards smarter, data-driven monitoring of delivery operations.

The system has been developed in coordination with Dubai Police and other relevant authorities, with the aim of improving safety while supporting the efficiency of delivery services.

Installing the monitoring devices and connecting to the platform will be optional from the system's launch until the end of the first half of 2027, giving companies time to prepare for the new requirements.

Participation will become mandatory after the transitional period.

The initiative comes as demand for delivery services and the number of delivery motorcycles on Dubai's roads continue to grow.
