Work has started on a major revamp of Dubai's iconic Deira Clocktower roundabout, Dubai Municipality has announced.
It said the upgrade will feature hard floors interpersed with greenery, multi-coloured lights and an improved water fountain design.
The project is being undertaken in line with the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, it added.
The clock, built in 1965, was located in Deira because at the time it was the point where major routes into the city converged, prior to the building of the Dubai – Abu Dhabi Road.
The UK's Daily Telegraph newspaper has listed the Clock Tower as among the 17 most beautiful clock towers around the world.
