Rain hits parts of UAE: Dubai Police issues public safety SMS alerts

Several parts of the UAE have been hit with rainfall of varying intensities on Sunday morning, with the Dubai Police issuing public safety messages via SMS to urge residents to exercise caution.

"Avoid beaches, refrain from sailing, stay clear of valleys and areas prone to flash floods, exercise caution, drive with care and heed the advise of the authorities," the SMS from Dubai Police read.

The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) issued yellow and orange weather alerts for several parts of the country until 4:00 pm on Sunday.

In a statement, the centre said rainfall will be "over scattered areas, particularly in coastal and northern regions, along with a decrease in temperatures", and "winds will range from light to moderate, intensifying at times with cloud activity and raising dust"... "with speeds between 10 and 25 km/h, reaching up to 45 km/h at times".

According to the weather forecast, unstable weather conditions in the UAE will continue until December 19.

The weather bureau explained that the country is affected by the extension of a surface low-pressure system accompanied by an upper-level low-pressure system that deepens and weakens at times.

Residents are also warned of dusty conditions, due to "light to moderate" winds.

The Ministry of Interior issued a public safety alert, urging residents to "reduce speed on the roads, avoid sea and beaches, and areas prone to water-logging".
