RTA launches smart testing facility at Dubai Silicon Oasis

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched Dubai Mobility Labs, a ground-testing facility dedicated to testing autonomous and future mobility technologies.

Located at Dubai Silicon Oasis, the new facility was inaugurated in collaboration with Dubai Integrated Economic Zones Authority (DIEZ). 

The labs feature dedicated test tracks with a multi-purpose area that provides a controlled environment, alongside real-world testing on public roads extending from Dubai Silicon Oasis to Al Qudra, with a total of 248 test scenarios that can be carried out in its ecosystem. 

The facility aims to expedite the transition of innovative transport technologies from development and testing to real-world and commercial deployment.

It also supports the objectives of the Dubai Smart Self-Driving Transport Strategy, which aims to convert 25 per cent of all mobility journeys in the emirate into autonomous trips by 2030.

DEKRA has been appointed to operate the labs and oversee its operations for the first three years.

Mattar Al Tayer, Director General, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors, Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). described the lab as the "smartest integrated ground-testing of its kind in the region".
