Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has completed 90 per cent of a 1,500-metre bridge that will provide direct entry and exit points between Sheikh Zayed Road and Dubai Harbour, with plans to start opening it to traffic this June.

With two lanes in each direction, the bridge will initially open for motorists travelling from Sheikh Zayed Road, from both Deira and Jebel Ali, towards Dubai Harbour.

The authority will later open the bridge from Dubai Harbour towards Al Naseem Street in July, alongside the bridge heading towards the intersection of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Street and Al Naseem Street.

A total capacity of up to 6,000 vehicles per hour in both directions is expected, with the bridge cutting travel time from 12 minutes to 3 minutes and improving traffic flow in the surrounding areas.

The project currently has 1,400 engineers and workers across 12 teams, with more than 4.2 million work hours recorded since its commencement.

“The project represents a model of public-private partnership and integration between road infrastructure projects and urban development through cooperation and coordination with Shamal Holding," said Mattar Al Tayer, Director General, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA.
