The UAE has expressed solidarity with India after heavy rains caused floods and landslides, killing dozens and causing widespread damage.

In a statement, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) extended its sympathies to the families of the victims, as well as to the government and people of India. The Ministry also wished a speedy recovery to those injured.

According to Indian authorities, at least 34 people have died in the country's northeastern region.

More than 1,000 tourists stranded in the Himalayan state of Sikkim were being evacuated on Monday, while in Meghalaya, army rescue teams were deployed to assist over 500 people trapped in flood-affected areas.

In neighbouring Bangladesh, at least four members of a family were killed in a landslide in the northeastern district of Sylhet. Authorities have opened hundreds of shelters across the hilly districts of Rangamati, Bandarban and Khagrachhari.

The Indian Meteorological Department has forecast more heavy rain in the coming days.
