UAE school calendar announced for next three years

Authorities in the UAE have approved the academic calendar for government and private schools for the next three years.

The decision was announced by the Ministerial Development Council, headed by His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs.

The calendar specifies the beginning and end of the school year and the total number of school days, as well as the dates of winter and spring breaks (for the years 2020-21, 2021-22, and 2022-23).

Beginning of the academic year:
All public and private schools: August 30, 2020 (2020-'21 Academic Year); August 29, 2021 (2021-'22); and August 28, 2022 (2022-'23).

Winter break:
All public and private schools, irrespective of their curriculum will have a three-week winter break: December 13-31, 2020; December 12-30, 2021; and December 11, 2022 to January 1, 2023.

Spring break:
Schools that follow the Ministry of Education's curriculum will have three continuous weeks of spring holidays: March 28, 2021 to April 15, 2021; March 27, 2022 to April 14, 2022; and March 26, 2023 to April 13, 2023.

Foreign curricula schools can opt for three continuous weeks or two straight weeks with one week accommodated over the rest of the year, in coordination with the education regulatory authority in each emirate.

Summer break:
Summer vacation for schools across the country, regardless of curriculum, should not exceed 8.2 weeks.

Total school days:
For public and private schools following the Ministry of Education's curriculum: 188 days (2020-'21); 186 days (2021-'22) and 188 days (2022-'23).

All other schools should have a minimum of 182 days.
