A shortage of medical gloves is inevitable as the demand from Europe and the US spikes.
That's according to Malaysia’s Top Glove Corporation Bhd, which produces 200 million natural and synthetic rubber gloves a day.
Over the past few weeks, they've seen orders almost double its production capacity. "Definitely there is a shortage. They order 100 per cent more, we can only increase 20 per cent so there is a shortage of about 50 per cent to 80 per cent," Executive Chairman Lim Wee Chai explained.
The company said its adding new machines every week, and rushing to source about 1,000 workers to meet demands, which will peak over the next three months.
Globally, there are more than 670,000 cases and over 31,000 deaths.
