The tower that caught fire in Sharjah over a week ago lacked safety measures and fire protection equipment. According to Sharjah Civil Defence officials, the Al Nasser Tower on King Faisal Road failed to maintain the alarm systems and other firefighting equipment such as hoses and sprinklers, which is why the fire spread to other floors. Around 200 families were affected after the 32-storey apartment building caught fire on October 1. Some of the families were able to return to their apartments after power was restored. The rest are still staying in hotels provided by Emirates Red Crescent as they wait for maintenance services in the building to be done. Following the incident, inspections by the civil defence department have been intensified in the emirate to ensure alarm systems are in place and regular maintenance services are being carried out.
