The prominent Emirati poet, writer and intellectual Habib Yousuf Abdallah Al Sayegh has passed away.
The 64-year-old served as the Editor-in-Chief of Al Khaleej Newspaper, Chairman of the Emirates Writers Union and Secretary General of the Arab Writers Union.
Tributes have been flooding in for Al Sayegh, with the country's leaders praising his contribution to Emirati and Arab literature and culture.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, said the Emirates had lost one of its pillars of journalism and literature.
Meanwhile, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, highlighted the importance of Al Sayegh's work in enriching the country's literature scene.
